4 teens arrested for 'pack style' robbery in Chevy Chase

CHEVY CHASE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Four teens were arrested and warrants have been issued for two suspects in connection with a robbery at a Bloomingdale's in Chevy Chase on July 3rd, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

Police say the teens will be charged as adults.

At approximately 4:57 p.m. on July 3rd, police say officers responded to a Bloomingdale's located on Western Avenue for the report of a robbery. Police say two males and four females entered the store, concealed merchandise, and attempted to leave without paying. The suspects pepper sprayed and assaulted the loss prevention officers when they tried to detain the suspects for the thefts, police said.

Germaine Johnson, 17, was charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and theft $1,000 to under $10,000, police said.

MISSING: 21-year-old Bethesda man


BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police need your help locating a missing 21-year-old man from Bethesda.

Eli Michael Sandler of Bethesda, Md. was last seen Thursday when police say he left Shady Grove Hospital against medical advice. Police say Sandler does not have prescribed medication with him.

He is described by police as a white male, 5'6" tall, 185 pounds, with blue eyes and blonde hair.

Anyone who has information regarding the whereabouts of Eli Michael Sandler is asked to immediately call the Montgomery County Police Department at 301-279-8000.

Former Navy SEAL killed in Bethesda bicycle accident

BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- A former Navy SEAL lost his life while riding his bicycle in Bethesda Friday.   

The crash that killed Timothy Aloysius Holden, 64, of Bethesda remains under investigation, say Montgomery County police officials. They say that Holden was pedaling east in the shoulder area of the 6000 block of Massachusetts Avenue at approximately 6:15 a.m. Friday when a Chevrolet Malibu struck Holden. The cyclist was wearing his helmet when he was hit. Holden died at the scene.

He was a retired Navy Captain and Navy SEAL who survived the Persian Gulf War.  He leaves behind a wife, five daughters and three grandchildren. 

Police search for suspect in Bethesda Macy's robbery

BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police are continuing to investigate a robbery at a Bethesda Macy's involving suspects who pepper sprayed authorities last month.

The 'pack' style robbery happened on July 23 at the Macy's located at 7125 Democracy Boulevard, according to Montgomery County police.

Police released additional photos of a male suspect and are asking the public to help identify him.

The investigation shows that two suspects tried to leave the store without paying for merchandise. The loss prevention officers were pepper sprayed by the suspects at they tried to stop the suspects from leaving.

'Black Lives Matter' sign removed from Bethesda church

BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Bethesda church is wondering who keeps vandalizing their 'Black Lives Matter' sign and why.

The sign has now been stolen.

Only a wooded frame remains where the banner should be. It's been replaced several times and for the third time in three weeks the sign has been vandalized or removed all together.

River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Bethesda put up the 'Black Lives Matter' sign last month.

A few days later, someone carefully cut out the word 'black.' Leaving the words 'Lives Matter.'

At first, the church wrote on Facebook that it was saddened by their ruined sign.

But when it happened a second time, they were angry and so were neighbors. 

Crews respond to report of Freon leak at Bethesda military base

BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- The Naval Support Activity Bethesda Fire and Emergency Services responded to the report of a Freon leak at an administrative facility on NSAB Friday morning.

Emergency services responded to the report of two unconscious personnel due to the Freon leak at building 147 around 10:20 a.m. The crews responded, investigated and evacuated everybody from inside of the building. They learned that nobody was unconscious and that there was in fact no active Freon leak.

Charged dropped against Md. summer camp magician

BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County prosecutors have dropped sexual abuse charges against a magic counselor at a Bethesda summer camp.

Jose Luis Valenzuela, who performs as Jolly the Magician and Jolly the Clown, was accused in July of inappropriately touching an 11-year-old girl at the Holton-Arms Creative Summer Camp in Bethesda.

Prosecutors say they dropped the charges due to a lack of sufficient evidence.
