BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- The woman killed Tuesday morning after she was hit by Montgomery County bus worked at a daycare center just blocks from the scene of her fatal accident.

Staff members at Guiding Star Child Development Center in Bethesda were shocked to learn that their co-worker Devika Gunasekere died while trying to cross Old Georgetown Road.

Gunasekere was crossing the road at Battery Lane when she was hit by a Montgomery County Ride-On bus turning left from Battery Lane onto Old Georgetown Road.

Detectives say they are investigating what the traffic signal and pedestrian signal were showing at the time of the accident, but Gunasekere was in the crosswalk.
