This is the Third of an Eight-Part Feature on the designers’ vision and progress at the DC Design House, which is underway and set to open on April 14th.

For Shazalynn Cavin-Winfrey of SCW Interiors in Alexandria, VA, www.scwinteriors.com, being included as one of the designers in the 2012 DC Design House is “the most prestigious invitation for a designer.” But it also means sprinting to the finish line. “Being selected to design for the showhouse is a bit like being crowned homecoming queen then having to run a marathon in your ball gown while collecting items for a scavenger hunt,” Cavin-Winfrey says. It’s also one of the highlights of one’s career, she notes.

Showhouse veteran Kelley Proxmire of Kelley Interior Design in Bethesda, MD, www.kelleyinteriordesign.com, who has participated in 21 showhouses over the past 11 years, says it’s still exciting to be selected. “I really feel honored to be a part of this fundraising event,” Proxmire says. “Children’s National Medical Center is a very deserving organization and should hopefully receive much needed funds from the DC Design House.”

Brighten Up Your House For Spring With HGTV Expert

Brighten Up Your House For Spring With HGTV Expert

Have you ever been shopping in a hardware store with every intention of updating your home, but secretly wishing someone from HGTV would pop out from behind a large plant and rescue you? I wouldn't mind a helping hang, and this is exactly what HGTV’s home improvement show accomplishes.

Designer and host of HGTV's Room Crashers', Todd Davis, looks for unsuspecting homeowners in stores across the U.S. who could use some help with their home improvement projects. Once he finds them, Davis follows the surprised shoppers home and completely transforms their rooms into a "model home."

Since March 20 marks the first day of spring, what better way to welcome the warm weather then a little spring-cleaning.

Improve Your Home Now With Expert HGTV Host

According to HGTV's "Curb Appeal" host, Sasha Andreev, owning a great home starts with a great first impression. It's all about what your house looks like from the outside.

Whether you live in a suburban home or a more urban environment, HGTV’s hit show “Curb Appeal” can provide great ideas to make the most of your home’s appearance at a low-cost.

I caught up with Sasha Andreev at the 3-day Washington Home & Garden Show happening this weekend at the Washington Convention Center, where he provided me with a few simple and inexpensive ways to transform outdated homes and liven up the outside of your house to create that coveted "curb appeal."

His suggestions include:

1. Add color to your front door. This is especially important if you are trying to sell your house. Paint the door a brighter color than your home, don't let it blend in with the rest of the trim.
