Washington Humane Society needs you to help save more lives than ever!

WHS is one of 49 shelters nationwide taking part in a friendly competition focused on increasing adoptions. As part of the “Save More Lives: ASPCA $100K Challenge”, the shelter who adopts the most animals during the months of August, September and October this year over their adoption numbers from those months last year, will win the grand prize of $100,000. Winning the grand prize would be amazing; however, the most important outcome of the Challenge is finding more homes for more of DC’s animals than ever before.

WHS is committed to our community and our community’s animals. We focus our efforts on solving the problems of pet overpopulation and homelessness in the District. Thousands of DC-born animals are given up each year, and WHS rescues thousands more stray animals off the streets of Washington. As the only shelter in DC who accepts any animal in need, regardless of breed or age, we are focusing our efforts around the theme “DC Loves DC Animals” to highlight the thousands of pets in DC who need new loving homes each year.

WHS has a goal of adopting 1,350 animals total during the Challenge months – 323 more animals than during the same time frame last year. Through increased community outreach and support, innovative adoption promotions geared toward bringing more families in to the shelter and following shelter industry best practices in animal care and training, we are well on our way to finding even more lifelong, loving homes for animals than we did last year.

But we can’t do it without our community! The Challenge is a great motivator for the WHS team and an incredible opportunity for the entire DC community to get involved and save animals in need. We ask you to open your hearts and homes to deserving DC animals who are looking for their forever homes. Adopt, foster or join the WHS volunteer team.

Every adoption saves a life; every adoption is a victory!
