The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has submitted an application to the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) for a $1 million grant that will fund a bikesharing system in southern Montgomery County. The bikeshare application to MDOT is the fifth grant submitted by MCDOT over the past three years seeking funding for bikesharing, but the first to the State of Maryland, which announced a bikeshare grant program this November.

Leggett to Launch Public Outreach Campaign for County's New Carryout Bag Law

 

The following information was sent to us by Karen Falcon:

County Executive Ike Leggett will launch the public outreach campaign for the County’s new Carryout Bag Law that will take effect January 1. Under the law, retailers must charge five cents for each paper or plastic carryout bag they provided to establishments in the County to customers at the point of sale, pickup or delivery. Retailers will receive a one-cent rebate on each plastic bag to help cover administrative costs.

Montgomery County's Carryout Bag Law

 As of January 1, 2012, all retail establishments in Montgomery County that sell goods and provide their customers a carryout bag (either paper or plastic) are required to charge 5 cents per bag. The program is designed to improve our environment.

Retail establishments include all stores, permanent booths, service stations, grocery stores, department stores, specialty goods, sellers, convenience stores, restaurants etc.
