The Old Takoma Business Association is pleased to announce the unveiling of the reCYCLE Art of Bike public art exhibit from Saturday, June 18th to October 2nd at B.Y. Morrison Park at the Takoma Junction in Takoma Park, MD (at the intersection of Carroll Avenue and Rt. 410. The sculptures will remain in place until October 3rd, 2011 when they will be auctioned off to the public at the annual Takoma Park Street Festival.

reCYCLE Art of Bike is sponsored by the non-profit Old Takoma Business Association and was designed to celebrate the art, bicycling and recycling cultures of Takoma Park.  Artists were commissioned to build seven outdoor sculptures, using mostly bicycle parts, which will be installed along the sidewalks of Old Takoma (Takoma Junction, Maryland, to the Takoma Theatre, DC) to create a self-guided walking tour with the goal of attracting and engaging visitors and showcasing Old Takoma.  Signs and maps will be available at each sculpture as well as throughout the shops of Old Takoma.

The sculptures include large, imaginative welded designs, kinetic creations, re-interpreted bicycles and an elaborately decorated bike wheel  - all created by talented artists who were selected in a juried process.  The artists include Silver Spring sculptor, Howard Connelly Design, Montgomery College sculpture student, Richard Lorr, Takoma Park artists Alison Baker and James Colwell and San Diego artist, Robert Wertz.
