The annual BET Honors with the stunning host Actress Gabrielle Union again celebrated and showcased the achievements of African Americans with their version of what can be likened to the Kennedy Center Honors.

The lineup at the Warner Theatre: Honorees Halle Berry (Service), Chaka Khan (Musical Arts), T.D. Jakes (Education), music exec Clarence Avant (Entrepreneur) and basketball player Lisa Leslie (Athletics).

Supermarkets Ready For Super Bowl Rush

BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) -- The Giant supermarket on Westbard avenue in Bethesda is stocked and ready for all those procrastinators waiting till the last minute to get Super Bowl party essentials. 

From assorted party platers to cakes decked out in Ravens and 49ers colors management at the supermarket says, "we're ready."

People we spoke with WUSA9 say the popular food items this year are still the classics. Chicken wings, tortilla chips and salsa, veggie plates, burgers, hot dogs, baked goods, and beer continue to top the shopping lists.

Both San Francisco and Baltimore are popular cities for their local brews, so Talbert's Ice and Beverage on River Road so it only fitting to have specials on all their Baltimore and San Francisco beer selections. 

Despite a nationwide rumor of a chicken wing shortage in the past weeks, WUSA9 is happy to report all rumors are false.

Firefighters Rescue One Person From House Fire In Bethesda

BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) -- Montgomery County Firefighters have rescued a resident from an early morning house fire in Bethesda.

According to officials, a fire broke out in the 7700 block of Glenmore Spring Road early Thursday morning. Firefighters say they arrived on scene and found a garage fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters say they were able to pull a person out of the burning home, and the victim is being treated at the scene.

The fire has been extinguished.

Riderwood retirement community in Silver Spring, MD, is sharing the recipe to its award-winning Crab Soup that  will be served January 20 at a President Obama Inaugural Gala hosted by the Delaware, Maryland and New York State Societies of Washington, D.C. The Gala will be held at 7 p.m. at The Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C. The more than 300 invited guests will include elected officials, friends of the states, and guests from all corners of the globe. Riderwood chefs will serve the soup to attendees.
