Man sentenced to 25 years for Md. brutal beating

BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) -- A Maryland man will spend 25 years behind bars for his role in the severe beating of another man last year in Bethesda, Md.

Monday, Niccolo Manzanero was sentenced in Montgomery County after being found guilty of attempted murder earlier this year.

The judge who sentenced Manzanero noted that the video of him and several other men beating another man recorded by by standers was difficult to watch.

"You can't believe that one human being would do this to another human being. The victim is down, he's unconscious and he's kicking his head into a concrete slab," said Maryland State's Attorney John McCarthy.

The incident happened in a parking garage in Bethesda in April of 2013. A good samaritan, Dylan Rawls, who was walking to his car, intervened and stopped the beating.

Police seek Bethesda bank robbery suspect

BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County police are seeking the public's help in identifying a suspect in the Aug. 7 robbery of a Bethesda bank.

Police say it happened at the M&T Bank branch located at 7920 Norfolk Avenue around 1:52 p.m. Investigation revealed the suspect entered the bank, approached the teller, made threats and requested money. A weapon was not seen, police said, and the suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled from the bank.

Police on Monday released surveillance photos of the suspect in hopes of someone recognizing him.

Pedestrian dies after suffering injuries in Md. crash

NORTH BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- A 24-year-old Bethesda man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a car on Rockville Pike and Executive Boulevard in North Bethesda, according to police. On Monday, August 10, police announced that he had died as a result of those injuries.

Police tell us that at approximately 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, August 6 an on-duty officer witnessed the collision. A police investigation revealed that 24-year-old Matthew Aaron Papirmeister of Bethesda was crossing the southbound lanes of Rockville Pike when he was struck by a Toyota Venza that was traveling southbound on Rockville Pike.

Police say the driver of the Toyota remained on the scene.

Papirmeister died at Suburban Hospital over the weekend.

Player finds Obama's golf ball at Congressional

A Sunday golfer at Congressional Country Club near Washington found a special prize in the woods.

A presidential golf ball.

Obama played Congressional on Saturday, and obviously had at least one errant shot.

One side of the special Titleist ball is stamped with the acronym POTUS, which stands for President of the United States.

Another side carries the number 44; Obama is the nation's 44th president.

An Instagram user named "larydoh" posted photos of the Obama golf ball.

10-year-old severely injured after being struck in Md.

BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County Fire said Friday afternoon a 10-year-old bicyclist was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle.

Authorities said the girl was hit at Tuckerman La. and Kings Riding Way.

According to Montgomery County Police, westbound Tuckerman Lane was closed from Rockville Pike to Old Georgetown Road for investigation. It has been reopened, according to authorities.

The accident happened around 5:40 p.m.

Authorities said Saturday, the girl is in serious but stable condition.

The driver stayed on the scene after hitting the girl, authorities said. It is unclear at this point if she will face any charges.

4 injured in accident on I-495 near Bethesda

BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA 9) -- Two Metrobus passengers are claiming injuries after the bus was involved in an accident on the Beltway Friday afternoon.

Authorities say that the Metrobus was involved in an accident with a passenger vehicle near the Old Georgetown Road exit on I-495.

Authorities report that two of the passengers in the involved vehicle are also claiming injuries.
